Empowering Young Minds: The Foundational Stage Approach

"Early childhood education is the key to the betterment of society." — Maria Montessori

The early years are considered the most crucial years of development. These years lay the foundation for children to turn into confident learners and versatile personalities.

In the Foundational Years, we engage each child’s sense of wonder and natural curiosity through play and differentiated learning opportunities. We believe that every child has enormous potential and is a valued contributor both to their own learning and to the world. Strong, positive relationships are built between teachers and students, encouraging open communication with a sense of independence and self-confidence. Moving beyond traditional methods we embrace an inquiry-based learning approach. This cultivates a love of learning that will stay with them throughout their educational journey.

Curriculum & Pedagogy

Foundational Years curriculum provides a strong foundation for children as they enter formal learning. It focuses on developing essential numeracy and language skills through engaging activities and topics. This carefully sequenced curriculum creates a clear path for progression and children develop the skills and knowledge needed for success in the next stage of their education.

There are seven areas of learning that shape the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, these include:

  1. Communication and Language
  2. Physical Development
  3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  4. Literacy
  5. Mathematics and Numeracy
  6. Understanding the World
  7. Expressive Arts and Design

STEM

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It’s an educational approach that integrates these subjects to enhance problem-solving skills and critical thinking. Early exposure to STEM makes a difference. It helps children understand the world around them in new and exciting ways, and it can even influence their future interests and careers. Here's how we bring STEM to life at G M Academy:

  1. Hands-On Activities
  2. Positive Relationship with STEM
  3. Real-World Problem Solving

Activity Based Learning / Learning By Doing

“Learning is an active process. We learn by doing. Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind.” Dale Carnegie

Activity-based learning is rooted in the idea that children are active learners rather than passive recipients of information. This approach acknowledges that kids are naturally curious and learn best by doing. It encourages them to take responsibility for their own learning experience and helps them develop teamwork and social skills.

Audio - Visual Learning

The main goal of the audio-visual form of education is to enhance the learning and teaching process by improving the understanding, memorization, delivery, and overall retention of the resources. By incorporating multimedia elements such as videos, animations, images, and sounds, audio-visual education becomes joyful and informative for our young learners at G M Academy.

Circle Time

Circle time is a key component that aims to develop socio-emotional skills in our students. It provides avenues for social emotional development and one-to-one interaction with teacher and their peers. It helps develop positive relationships between children through engaging and fun activities.

Aloha - The Splash Pool

The splash pool facility at G M Academy offers students a refreshing escape from the academic rigors of the school day. It serves as a space for recreation, social interaction, and relaxation.

UBUNTU - The Inter School Fest

UBUNTU – I Am Because We Are, is an event where we cherish the innate creativity and unique talent, and the essence of childhood. This fest is our tribute to the innocence and beauty of childhood, fostering an environment where every student can shine and express themselves freely.

Language Lab

Maximum language development takes place during the initial years of learning. The key to helping children optimize their language skills is to expose them to interesting things every day, and encourage them to express themselves through storytelling, dramatisation, picture reading, recitation, and public speaking.

D.E.A.R Program - “Drop Everything & Read"

At G M Academy it is a celebration of reading designed to remind every individual to make reading the most important activity in their lives. DEAR time conveniently accommodates a variety of student interests and ability levels.

SPARSH

“Motherhood: All love begins here.” Mother’s Day is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible bond between the mother and the child. The children of the foundational stage celebrate SPARSH - Mother’s Day with full gusto and zeal.

Grandparents Day

“Grandparents are the sprinkle of stardust that lights up our lives.” The gala event highlights the importance of grandparents in the lives of their grandchildren.

FUN-A-THON

The Fun-A-Thon Sports Fiesta at G M Academy for the Foundational Stage is an exhilarating event filled with enthusiasm, energy, and a celebration of sportsmanship.

Annual Presentation

One of the most important and grand events of the year is the ‘ANNUAL PRESENTATION’. For young learners at G M Academy, it is an occasion of celebration where students display their talents through wonderful performances.

Special Assemblies

Assemblies are an important feature of school's routine and curriculum. They are a means to create a positive, reflective ethos and promote value-based education.

Evaluation & Assessment

To guide teaching and measure learning, the school has opted for performance-based formative and summative assessments using standardised rubrics and tools. We follow Continuous & Comprehensive Evaluation.

‘Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child open up himself to life.’ At G M Academy, the Foundational Stage is an amalgamation of a secure and safe environment, development of self-esteem with exceptional quality learning, laying down the building blocks for a child’s happy future.
